Re: Re: Displaying Embedded Documents in a SharePoint Web Page
by

After doing all my research, it looks like it will be a specialized control to host the office document, however the solutions I've found all point to making a change on the workstation:
Option 1. Changing the default browser behavior for Excel document types. (From Windows Explorer, Tools->Folder Options->File Types->Select Microsoft Excel Worksheet->Advanced->Check Browse in Same Window or modifying the registry: (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q162059/)
-This behavior may be considered undesirable by business users
2. DSO Framer Control: (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/311765). This controls allows you to host office applications through this container. However, it is not safe for scripting, (meaning the user will get a popup if they try to use it). The source code is included, so this could be made a safe control, (it's C++), however, it would still require the control to be installed as an add-in in the user's browser, or Operations would have to push it into every user's browser.
3. Office OCX & Office Component: (http://www.officeocx.com/OfficeActiveXOnlineDemo.htm). This is an elegant safe control, however it has the same implications as the DSO Framer Control in that the add-in would need to be installed on the user's workstation. It is not free: $1,289.95 CDN.
Hope this helps someone.
